                               HIGHLAND VALLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

We have 9 classes for adults which meet at Highland Valley on Sunday mornings for one hour beginning at 10:00am. Some classes utilize a lecture format while others use discussion and/or lecture. There is a class for everyone to match your age or stage in your life journey. If you are not currently participating in a Sunday School Class, we encourage you to visit and find one right for you.

CONNECTIONS Class

This class is an informal class for adults of all ages and marital status. The Connections Class is a newly-formed class, and invites new church members or those not involved in Sunday School to become involved in the study of Christian issues. The discussion class rotates leaders on a volunteer basis. Visitors are always welcome.

NEW BEGINNINGS Class

This is a supportive class for couples who are interested in meeting others and growing their faith. They rotate teachers and enjoy stimulating class discussions, focused studies, and share various opinions about challenging Sunday School lessons. They enjoy regular social outings and mission opportunities. Visitors are always welcome!

CROSSROADs Class

This newly formed class is made up of couples and singles of varied ages. Study material will be geared toward the application of God’s word in our everyday lives.

GOOD NEWS Class

This class is designed for adult couples or singles. The Good News Class studies one chapter of the Bible at a time. The strength of this class is the prayer ministry for each other and other prayer concerns. Mission opportunities of the class are the Youth Emergency Shelter, Our House, Wesley interns at U of A and the Infant Crisis Ministry.

BEN MILLER Class

The Ben Miller Class is made up of adults from a wide range of ages 55 and up. This makes for some very interesting discussions and perspectives on many topics. Lessons include contemporary and social issues and how the Bible relates to our lives today and lessons from "The Quarterly". Classes are relaxed and open. The class enjoys fellowship through bi-monthly socials and work projects. The class serves meals to Our House and also supports several other outreach ministries and service projects. The Ben Miller class took on the project of renovating Walnut Grove United Methodist Church which was built in 1885.  The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Highland Valley United Methodist Church is the parent church.

HIGHLANDER Class

This class was organized in 1958 and their main goal is a study of the Bible. The Highlander Class is made up of a wide range of ages, a lot of whom are "young" retirees, couples and single persons. A class dinner is held the third Thursday of each month-sometimes with a great potluck and other times eating out together. The class participates in several missions, including contributing regularly to the Infant Crisis Ministry and buying goats for the International Heifer Project.

FAITH Class

This group is made up of mature adults whose class begins with singing, a brief review of church activities, prayer requests, announcements, and prayer. They base their faith on Scripture, tradition, experience and reason and want to live their faith. A business/social meeting is held periodically for fellowship and to enable class members to be involved in the planning for the various activities of the class.

ALICE-FIDELIS Class

This is a small but faithful group of senior women with a primary focus of Bible study (International Sunday School Lessons) and outreach missions. Visitors or new members who enjoy studying in a small group setting and discussing the Bible as a pattern of living are invited to join this small group.

FELLOWSHIP Class

Often called the "Telephone Class", this class is composed of our home-bound members, connected by speakerphones via a conference call, enabling them to participate in group prayer, music, scripture and a lesson each Sunday morning at 9:00am. Any shut-in is eligible to join if they have a touch-tone telephone. Telephone speakers are provided by the church. We use the "Adult Bible Studies" literature and student books are taken to each class member.
