Children’s Church
Volunteers assist during the 10:45 worship service to care for 3 year olds up through 1st grade children while their parents attend church. Volunteers escort the children from the Education Building to the Sanctuary for the children’s sermon during the 10:45 service. After the sermon, the children are escorted back to their classroom where they participate in an activity or lesson. Time commitment: 1 hour approximately once a quarter.
Children’s Sunday School Leaders
Volunteers are always needed in our children’s area for Sunday School to teach or assist or substitute. Children need the leadership of Christian adults who will guide them as they grow in their understanding of themselves, of God, the Bible, Jesus, the church and its mission.

A CDL is not required to drive the church van. Time commitment: 4 hours about 3 or 4 times a year for the Sunday morning bus ministry or if volunteering to serve on a list of van drivers to drive as requested.
Greeters
Welcome those attending worship at Highland Valley and give directions or answer questions about class locations or childcare as needed. Greeters serve on a rotation schedule and are needed from 9:30-9:45am and again 10:30-10:45am in and around the narthex of the Sanctuary.
Handyman Team
This volunteer team enables church members to work together on improving the general appearance of the church building and property. There are a multitude of ongoing tasks needing attention: changing light bulbs, cleaning gutters, minor repairs, painting, spring cleaning, etc. Time commitment: varies according to need and your schedule.
Infant Crisis Ministry
The Infant Crisis Ministry receives referrals from a variety of agencies, area hospitals and public county health units for mothers who have been screened by their agencies and have a need for baby items to help them get started when they take their new baby home. ICM Volunteers shop for newborn items and toiletries and put together laundry baskets full of these newborn items and clothing. When a referral is received in the Church Office, a coordinator delivers the care basket to the agency or hospital and they in turn deliver it to the mother. ICM supplies the basic care basket only once per new mother, so it is important that they are working with a reliable agency to help them find more long-term assistance if needed. Volunteers are always needed to shop for baby items, put baskets together or sell Kroger Cards on Sunday mornings as part of our fundraising for this ministry.
Kitchen Committee
Volunteers help keep the kitchen area and pantry orderly and functional for the smooth operation and use of the kitchen by many different church groups. Responsibilities include organizing the pantry area, cleaning the refrigerator, maintaining a clean and orderly work space for the preparation of meals by various groups. Time commitment: approximately 1 hour a week at volunteer’s convenience.
Office & Mailing Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to serve on a list of those willing to be called to assist with monthly mailings to the congregation, stuffing and sealing envelopes, etc., or other non-routine tasks that may arise in the Church Office. Job assignments can fit the skills and preferences of the volunteer. Time commitment: 1-2 hours a month or as needed and when convenient for volunteer’s schedule.
Prayer Group
Prayers of support, comfort, and reassurance are offered for families and individuals. Each Monday, members of the Intercessory Prayer Group receive a weekly update from the Pastors on prayer concerns of our church members, visitors or their family or friends. The Prayer Groups meets the the first Monday of each month from 9:00am-10:00am to pray for Highland Valley and specific needs of our church family.
Rockers & Huggers
Parents with infants need a safe and nurturing environment in which to leave their children. So in addition to the paid Nursery Caregivers, volunteers help in the Nursery providing an extra touch of TLC for our babies while their parents attend Sunday School and/or Church. Time commitment: 1 hour approximately once a quarter during either the 9:40 worship service or the 10:45 worship service.
Scouting Program
The Scouting Program at Highland Valley provides opportunities and guidance for children, youth and young adults to develop physically, mentally, socially, morally and spiritually, building character and fostering good citizenship while having a safe and fun time. The church currently serves as host to several scout troops. For information about the Scouting program or how to volunteer in this area, contact the church office.
Stephen Ministry
Highland Valley volunteers are recruited to be trained and organized to help provide Christian care-giving to members of our congregation.
