Awakening
A: Awakening is an adult band that gives leadership to our casual service on a regular basis as well as leading the music for our children’s and youth choirs and occasionally for our homebound (telephone) class. New members are welcome.
Grace Notes
A: The Grace Notes Choir is our senior adult choir that enjoys singing familiar hymns. The choir is in service to others; visiting the nursing homes, and bringing cheer to many. All you need to do to join is enjoy music, have a good spirit and a willingness to share in great fellowship with others. Grace Notes meet the 4th Tuesday of each month at 10:00am.
Handbell Choir
A: Handbells are used at Highland Valley in a variety of services, many times during special services. Rehearsals are at noon each Thursday with seasonal breaks.
Instrumentalists
A: If you play an instrument, we have a place for you. Please contact the music department to share your talent. We have several brass, woodwinds, percussion and strings players that enjoy playing as a group, accompanying a choir or presenting solos on different occasions.
Chancel Choir
A/Y: The Chancel Choir reaches out through music to share the word of God in worship and with each other in a community of Fellowship. The level of musicianship varies among our members from strong music readers to those who do not read at all. The only requirement is a love to sing and willingness to share. The choir meets for rehearsal each Wednesday from 6:30-8:00pm and leads the music at the 10:45 service on Sunday mornings, as well as special seasonal programs. Childcare is provided.
Go Fish (Youth Band)
Y: Go Fish is our Youth Band made up of several of our youth. They rehearse weekly; singing contemporary songs for worship, choir tour and help lead UMYF on many Sunday evenings in song.
Youth Choir
Y: The Youth Choir is composed of 6th-12th graders and meets to rehearse from 6:30-7:15pm each Sunday after UMYF. They sing for all 3 worship services the first Sunday of each month during the school year. The choir also takes an annual summer choir tour.
Children's Choir
C: The Children's Choir meets during our Kids' Club and Youth Club programs. This includes ages 3 years - 5th grade and meets for the fall & spring semester. Kids Club and Youth Club begin at 5:00 pm and end at 6:30pm. The children sing monthly for the 10:45am worship service and present special programs during the year.
MEN’S CHORUS
A. Men’s Chorus meets Wednesday evenings from 6 – 6:30pm and sings regularly in worship.
Highland Valley Arts Academy
A/Y/C: The Highland Valley Arts Academy is a program offered to the church and community by Highland Valley United Methodist Church, with all classes held at the church. Semesters for the Arts Academy begin in August and in January of each year. ART CLASSES
A/Y/C: Taught by Cheryl Gilstrap, Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings.
PIANO LESSONS
A/Y/C: Teacher is Betty Morgan. Beginning to Advanced Levels. Scheduled at the convenience of the teacher and student.
