Service Opportunities

DELTA MISSION PROJECT

Each year, a team from Highland Valley made up of adults and youth (completing the 8th grade or above) participate in this week-long mission trip to Chicot County, where poverty is nearly three times that of Central Arkansas. In addition to work and construction projects, youth build leadership through networking with community leaders to identify solutions to hunger and poverty needs. Past projects have included building shelves to expand a food pantry, stocking food pantries in the area, refurbishing a church and community amphitheatre, painting and building projects on local homes in need of repair. The mission team also organized and implemented a Backpack for Kids program in the city schools to provide healthy meals for children in crisis as identified by the school counselors. The Highland Valley youth group also collects clothing, food and school supplies during the year in mission to the Delta Community of Chicot County. If you would like to know more about how you can help, call the Church Office.

Our House Dinners

Throughout the year, small groups of youth provide dinner for residents at the "Our House" shelter for neighbors without homes. This service time includes meal preparation and serving to the "Our House" residents on a Friday evening.

Mission Alive

Highland Valley Youth participate in this conference-wide effort to address hunger needs within our state. In addition to gathering food and supplies for the hunger effort, we also assist in raising money through the Arkansas Rice Depot. Our youth band, Go Fish, also performs at this event.

Other opportunities

Twice a year, as part of our UMYF program, small-groups take on service projects of their choosing. Some of our projects include nursing home visitation and gifts, fundraisers for world hunger, and assisting in Eagle Projects for local members of the BSA (Boy Scouts of America). These projects are decided upon and executed entirely by the group of youth.
